It seems that I was in the wrong directory also

docker ps returns Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running? if I run the docker daemon using the command dockerd in thse same directory and then docker ps I get the following empty list: CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED STATUS PORTS NAMES
